If you’ve got to this page and you think I’m going to tell you about this all amazing fat pill that’s going to help you lose weight while you sit on your ass and eat your favourite ice cream then click the back button, cos you’ll still need to work hard to achieve your goals. We all have to.
What I’m talking about is that you can use supplements – that aren’t harmful to your health – to help you accelerate the process of gaining muscle and losing the extra fat around your body. This is by some high-level supplements from a company called Poliquin, who have tested many courses of taking supplements to reduce the amount of weight you have in certain parts of your body.
How Can Supplements Help
If you have your body fat tested – actually body fat, not doing the nonsensical BMI calculations with your weight and height ratio – which is commonly referred to in the Poliquin circles as bio-signature, then your trainer (or measurer) can inform you about what parts of your body are best to target and why.
When all of the different parts of your body are measured for fat, including pecs, thighs, belly, back, lower back, cheek, neck, and calf, the individual who is testing will enter your figures into their biosig program. Once the entries are made the program will make a calculation. This provides you with your body fat percentage and what part of your body you are best to concentrate on for fat reduction.
Spot Fat Reduction
Getting rid of your flabby belly might have been the first reason you went to the gym; it certainly was the primary reason why I became interested in going to the gym initially. But, that doesn’t mean to say that when your fat measurement results come out that the program is going to say ‘reduce your belly fat’ simply because you think you look fat in that area when you’re looking in the mirror.
What happens at this stage in the initial stages actually surprised me. Both my first and second measurement sessions (2 weeks apart) by my personal trainer showed that I needed to lose the extra fat surrounding my muscles on my legs; and that all of it was caused by having too much of the hormone oestrogen in my body.
Was this a surprise to me? Yes, it was because I would have thought that will a belly a little bit bigger than most (and larger than I wanted) that I would be placed on a solution to reduce this area of my body and not to concentrate on my legs.
The Supplement Solution
Taking supplements isn’t something that I thought of initially to have a massive impact on how I would get fit – and I wasn’t particularly interested in taking steriods to quicken things along as I’d heard many stories about the side effects.
A quick note about the supplements: they’re not steriods and they’re not going to have a negative affect on your body, unless you have some type of allergy to the ingredients, much like when you’re allergic to things in a multivitamin.
So what happened? Well, my body fat percentage was quite high when we started (34ish) and after 3 months on the different plans (taking a different range of supplements) my body fat percentage went down to 29%. I consider that a massive drop. Especially when my actual weight (and I would suppose my BMI calculation) increased during that period.
Note: body weight will most probably nearly always increase due to you gaining more muscle mass (developing your muscles and allowing them to grow to consume more energy and in so doing use up the fat in the body, or actually move the fat out of the body).
It’s not the low fat eating that we’re led to believe that actually helps us lose the fat. There have been many studies that have noted a clear link between weight training (building muscle) and eating a high protein, low carb diet, but that is for another day.
Now comes the question what after all of this? What did I learn from doing this?
I’ve come out of this short time with an appreciation of how these types of programs and supplements can help me to increase my fat loss in particular parts of my body, much like some people ‘believe’ there is a ‘magic pill’ to weight loss or when they starve their bodies. I’m not a believer of that, but what I am a believer of is that I can use this type of system to help me along the way of losing weight.
